This presentation will provide information to assist high school teams in providing supports at each level of Positive Behavior Support (i.e., schoolwide, secondary, tertiary). In particular, this presentation will address: (a) ensuring that schoolwide components of Positive Behavior Support are in place with fidelity for both academics and behavior, (b) identifying data and decision rules for screening and identifying students in need of more intensive support(s), (c) providing examples of team driven supports based on group and individual student needs, and (d) provide information regarding data that can be used to monitor progress for students beyond the schoolwide level.

Supporting Implementation of Schoolwide PBIS
Steve Goodman (MiBLSi)

Effective implementation of schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is accomplished though a building leadership team. This presentation will focus on the critical features that lead to effective building team coordination and management PBIS implementation at the high school level. Structured Conversations with Another School

High schools that are implementing Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions often have minimal contact with other schools going through the same process. This activity provides the opportunity to talk with members of school teams regarding their experience with the implementation process. A structured note-talking document with suggested questions are provided. You are also encouraged to generate your own questions for this activity.

The High School Behavior Education Program (BEP)
Amy Campbell (Grand Valley State University)

The High School Behavior Education Program (HS-BEP) is a targeted intervention for students who are at-risk for developing more significant problem behaviors. Typically, students who display mild problems behaviors, as well as academic skill deficits may benefit from this program. Briefly, HS-BEP includes daily positive contact with an adult, regular teacher feedback, and an academic behavior seminar. This session will provide an introduction to the intervention and review implementation steps.

Implementing and Sustaining SWPBIS in the High School
Tina Kocefas, Rebecca Reed, Chad Brady (Kalamazoo Central)

Implementing and sustaining SWPBIS in the high school setting require participation from two very important (and sometimes challenging!) groups of people: High school staff and high school students. During this presentation we will first take a look at how to implement SWPBIS by interweaving culture/climate concepts into the building’s adult driven structure. We will then take a look at how to sustain SWPBIS by using multi-media to interweave culture/climate concepts into the classroom. The more we are able to tap into adult and student interests, the more participation and success with implementing and sustaining SWPBIS.

The Challenges of Establishing and Maintaining Teams and Effective Schoolwide Expectations
Craig Ross, Kathy Hurley, Andrea Ramsdell, Clint Wagner (Portage Community High School)

This session will focus on what we have learned about establishing a PBIS team and the group dynamics implications that result. It is important that schools understand the challenges of staff buy-in that arise from initial decisions regarding who will serve on PBIS teams. Additionally, the session will address strategies for communicating PBIS data and program concerns while maintaining maximum staff involvement. We will also share some of the other lessons we have learned as we have completed our third successful year of implementation.

Check In-Check Out (CICO)

Jennifer Rollenhagen (MiBLSi)

SWIS-CICO (School Wide Information System-Check-In/Check-Out) is a web-based software system for collecting and summarizing a secondary intervention that compliments the structure of School Wide Positive Behavior Supports (SW-PBS). Schools that have SW-PBS in place may still have students needing additional behavioral support. The purpose of SWIS-CICO is to provide schools with accurate, efficient, and practical information for decision-making for these students. This session will provide an overview of SWIS-CICO and a walk through of data entry and report generation.
