Local District Leadership Team

Much time and resources have been invested into establishing a schoolwide behavior and reading model of support from both the building and the district level. After all this effort, a major concern is how do we sustain implementation with staff change over or within new settings? One structure to secure sustainable implementation is the District/Regional Leadership Team.

The purpose of the District/Regional Leadership Team is to support local Building Leadership Teams by promoting funding, visibility, and political support around the initiative.  The District/Regional Team works to ensure the development of vision, professional development, coaching, resource allocation, and technical assistance in the areas of behavior and reading supports.

The team also works collaboratively to establish training capacity so that the district can provide sustainable local capacity for implementation with fidelity. Additionally, the team ensures that coaches are available to provide support for facilitating, assisting, maintaining, and adapting local school implementation efforts. The team commits resources to establish measurable outcomes, methods for evaluating progress toward these outcomes, and action plans based on data.

One function of the District Leadership Team is to "braid together" the various initiatives that school staff face in their everyday work. Many of the initiatives may be tied to different funding streams and need to be tracked separately for accounting purposes. Braiding helps the Building Leadership Teams implement a schoolwide model of support by understanding the connections between the initiatives. The image below left, illustrates that schools implement multiple initiatives such as No Child Left Behind, School Improvement and Response to Intervention. It is important for District Leadership Teams to braid multiple initiatives together for the common purpose of improving student outcomes.
