Strategic Support for Struggling Readers Through Data-Based Decision Making

 

 

Purpose

This training will introduce teams to using student performance data to plan research-based instruction and interventions for struggling readers and the systems to support implementation.

Objectives

By the end of the day, participants will have:

  • Completed Fall Data Review Activities
  • An understanding how to use Universal Screening Data to make instructional decisions
  • Established systems for providing strategic interventions
  • An understanding of progress-monitoring and data-based decision making
  • Developed a process for grade level meetings

 

Items for Teams to Bring to Training

• Pink Assessment Binder for 2011-20122 (distributed at the Leadership Launch in August/September 2011)

• Pink Assessment Booklet from 2010-2011 School Year

• School Improvement Plan (submitted to MDE on 9-1-11)

• Lilac Participant Workbook from Spring Data Review with Action Items Recorded (May 2011)

• Special Education Data Collection Form for 2010-2011 (if it is has not already been submitted)

• Reading Documents & Data (see the options below which vary based on the data system your school is using for the 2010-2011 school year)

DIBELS 6th Edition & DIBELS Next Reports (bring one set per team member, if possible)
• Summary Reports from 2010-2011 & 2011-2012 for each grade level
• Distribution Reports by Subgroups (Ethnicity, Free & Reduced Lunch, Special Education) for each grade level from Fall 2011
• Cross-Year Box Plots for each grade level
• Class List report from 2011 for one classroom of a teacher who is on the leadership team (preferably first grade, if possible) - Click here for directions

AIMSweb Reports (bring one set per team member, if possible)
• Tier Transition Reports for each measure at each grade level
• Tier Transition Reports by Subgroups (Ethnicity, Free & Reduced Lunch, Special Education) for each measure at each grade level
• Multi-Year Norms Charts for each grade level
• Scores & Percentiles “Rainbow” Report from Fall 2011 for one classroom of a teacher who is on the leadership team (preferably first grade, if possible)


• Behavior Documents & Data (bring one set per team member, if possible)
• SWIS Quick Big 5 Report (option on the report menu in SWIS)
• SWIS Average Referral Per Day Per Month Report with National Data on Graph (option under Advanced Options menu for the report – check Show National Data on Graph)
